Home Improvements 'R Us

Last week B was on a home improvement kick. He put a faucet into the garage, planted a tree, put in a new light fixture in the dining room,

put in stepping stones to the street,

decorated the patio,

got a new rug and pillows for the living room,

and hung a kite and put up decals in Chase's room.

PHEW!

Spring Landscaping

We had our front patio poured this evening! Everything was going great and the patio was almost smooth and then Chase decided to let the dogs out and they ran all over the wet concrete! Luckily the guy was really nice and re-did the smoothing. Chase felt bad though and was so sad he almost refused to do handprints - but in the end he did and all is well and hopefully by Easter we will be out sitting on our new patio!

The Perfect Frames

Here are the new accessories I bought for our entertainment center.  I can't express how much I love the art frames (we put my favorite poem and some Beatles sheet music in them). I admit I got a little carried away at West Elm but B didn't like some of the pillows I got so they may be going back to the store.

Home Sweet Home

We are finally moved in and pretty much everything is unpacked and set up. Here are a few photos.

Living Room: I love the accent wall and the fan (also the area rug was a great deal at Home Depot). The entertainment center and chair are from IKEA of course and the couch is Scandanavian Designs. We still need some art work and throw pillows but I am happy with the room.

Chase's Bedroom: This is probably my favorite room in the house - it has great light and is huge. I bought some cheap comic books on eBay and framed them for the art in the room...the superhero table was quite an adventure but I'll save that for another post.

Dining Room: Not terribly exciting - IKEA table and Target chairs. The picture that used to be in our family room went perfectly in here.

Sewing Room: OMG the entire closet is PACKED from floor to ceiling with crafting supplies. I think I may be a bit over obsessed with sewing / knitting.

Loft: Perfect for quiet time away from the main family area.

I am happy to finally be settling in!

West Elm

I just discovered West Elm! They have amazing bedding!!!

I love these frames too!

Home Sweet Home

I am in the middle of my moving marathon. We have painted, assembled tons of furniture, moved more stuff then we knew we owned (we filled a 33ft truck plus about 6 SUVs full and that was AFTER we sold the vast majority of our furniture - crazy!!). Now we are in the unpacking and decorating stage. Seriously my legs are more tired then they are after a 4 mile run or serious gym workout! I'll post pictures in a week or two when we are all settled. The scariest thing is going to be unpacking my craft and sewing stuff. It is highly likely that it won't all fit.

IKEA Rocks!

Graham and I went to IKEA today and I bought a ton of new furniture for the house. I made two impulse buys - one of them was the above ruffled throw. I LOVE it. The other was a panel curtain for the sliding door. There were about 5000 other things I wanted to buy but I tried to control myself since we were buying so many planned items.

Superhero Bedroom Art

Bedroom

Bathroom

- Cheap eBay comic books $20 for 50
- Metallic blue and green frames from Jo Anns $13 for the big ones $11 for the small ones
- White art paper (8 sheets) $3 a sheet

Amazing art for Chase's new superhero room and bathroom...priceless.

It is going to be the perfect pop of color for a somewhat neutral room!

Paint Colors

We are experiencing paint color drama around our house. I swear swatches do NOT represent what the paint actually looks like in large volumes! Also paint apparently looks different in all sorts of lighting making it REALLY hard to pick a color. I have bought a ton of samples and still can't decide!

Our house will be painted Analytical Gray and I am trying to pick accent colors.

Mind you the computer doesn't really show how different the colors are.

The biggest debate has been around the study/mudroom accent color (probably because it is the only bold color we are picking). The current top runners are:

Citronella VS. Fusion

Here are the Sherwin Williams sample rooms with those colors and Analytical Gray.

I think for the master bedroom we are going with Mink. The only question is whether we do an accent wall of Mink or do the room in Mink and the accent as Analytical Gray.

Chase's accent wall is going to be Cityscape (basically boring gray) because we are going to do bright superhero comic books as the artwork in his room. Although it has come to my attention that Mink and Cityscape are very similar - but my concern with doing Mink in Chase's room is that it has a slight purple hue to it.

For the living room we are going to do an accent wall in either Porpoise or Griffin (Porpoise is slightly grayer - we will pick whichever color goes with the floors better)...they are both fairly dark / dramatic (I swear in real life these colors are quite different from Mink - much darker).

Here is a sample of what Griffin looks like with Analytical Gray.

I can't decide what to do with my sewing room so it may just stay unpainted while I try to figure it out (which may mean it never gets painted).

What do you think about Moody Blue or Mediterranean for a sewing room?

The bathrooms are also going to have to wait for round two of painting.

One Month From Our Move

We have sinks, outlets, faucets, a garbage disposal, light fixtures, toilets, the right kitchen sink (woohoo), a backsplash...

Unfortunately they forgot our white ceilings and the have been installing the wrong barn door...

It's a good thing we have been staying on top of things!

House Updates

Wow!  It was a busy week at the house!  The walls and trim and doors are painted (just ceilings left), the railing is stained, the quartz counters are in, under mount sinks are installed, barn door mounting is up, and all of the closet rods are installed.  I am guessing white ceilings, back splash, faucets, and flooring are next. Very exciting!
