Life

I swear I have been doing stuff...just not blogging.

Life has been busy - I am back to running, we had to evict our renters, I have been struggling my way through Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we are training Stark, I knit a scarf that I wasn't happy with and now am knitting a cowl that I love, oh yah and I feel like work has been all consuming.

Hopefully blogging will re-enter the routine soon.

Knit Rags

One of my coworkers bought a knit dishrag recently and she said she LOVES it. She wants to learn to knit and is hosting a crafting day tomorrow so I made her a few cotton dishrags as a hostess gift. I've read online that these rags are great for scrubbing glass.

They are very quick little projects, I used the below pattern (I tried both a size 8 and 10 needle and was happy with both gauges).

Materials: Sugar and Cream yarn; Size 6 or 7 needles (US)
Instructions:
Cast on 4 stitches
Row 1: Knit 4
Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 44 stitches on the needle.
Row 3: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat Row 3 until you have 4 stitches on the needle.
You can now either bind off or do a round of single crochet and make a little loop of chain stitches in one corner so you can hang the cloth to dry when you are finished using it.

Knitting Needle Wall Art

I have been struggling with how to decorate my sewing room and I think I may have found the perfect thing!

You could use all sorts of fun funky fabrics and this is a great way to display them. It also fixes the whole knitting needle storage issue. There isn't any reason you couldn't use the same idea for sewing tools.

Here is the tutorial.

Knit Cowl

The other day it was chilly out so I wore a scarf for the first time this season. Chase wanted one too so he wore a scarf that I had knit for him when he was a baby.

I realized that a cowl would make more sense for a running playing little boy so I knit this up. Very quick project...

I did a few garter stitch rows on each end to give it a finished look but you can't really see them when the cowl rolls.

I also made the cowl loose and oversized because there is nothing worse then a tight scarf or turtleneck.

I would totally make a UMARO throw...

Scarf Progress

I love love love this scarf but I feel like I have been working on it forever and it is still so short!  It will be worth it though right?

Flounce Ruffle Scarf

I dragged B out to a specialty yarn store yesterday and bought some ruffle yarn! Here is the finished scarf. It is on the short side (I actually like scarves this length - about long enough for one wrap) but if you wanted a scarf you could wrap around your neck a few times I would go with two skeins instead of one. I used six stitches for this scarf. This is a great beginner project, really fast knit and fun finished product.

Scarf modeled by Chase.

While I was at the knitting store I also picked up this yarn / pattern - so fun!

And finally on the running front today I did a nice steady long run - woohoo!

Socks by Mom

Chase had a play date today.

It started with cinnamon rolls and smoothies...

Within 30 minutes our house looked like this...

The two kiddos are the same age / size -aren't they adorable together! The conversation between them was pretty hilarious...

But at least it allowed me to finish knitting these...

Sizing Issue

Why is it that every time I try to knit an item of clothing the size is off?  I'm guessing these socks are going to be huge on Chase...

Mitts

All the snow and cold weather that we have been having here has me thinking about mitts and mittens! I need to make time for some knitting soon. Here are some cute ones I saw on Ravelry.

Cabled Leg Warmers

I have taken a crafting break but I got the itch to do a project again. The ballet class that I went to made me really want to make some nice leg warmers. So I cast on and started these. They are really long so hopefully I can stick to the project long enough to finish them but I think they are really cool!

Skinny Empire

I finished knitting Skinny Empire from the Custom Knits book. It is a really simple knit.

I wish I had made it a size smaller but otherwise I think it turned out well.

Pumpkin Treats and Scarves

I made pumpkin cookies last night but man do I want to try this pumpkin dip recipe that Capricious posted about!

I've been trying to do the "healthy" thing lately and it has me thinking about unhealthy food all the time *sigh*.

In knitting news, I have been working on this lovely scarf. I am kind of bummed because I messed up one of the cables and it goes the wrong direction and it is making the perfectionist in me crazy. Makes me want to rip out the entire thing and start over but I know that isn't practical....

Can you spot the "bad" cable?

Ingenue

I have not only be neglecting my blog this summer but I have also been neglecting my crafting in favor of yoga, Tichu, and reading. I am going on vacation soon though and I plan to get back to a bit of crafting, I want to try to knit this sweater while I am away (Ingenue in Custom Knits).

Maybe I will get a chance to work on my snowball quilt again soon too - I just need my kiddo to get healthy again and my yoga addiction to level out!

Another Scarf

Why am I making scarves in the spring? Because they are quick, easy, mindless, and good to work on while watching TV. This weekend I made another one of these scarves. Only this time I made a scarf instead of a wrap and I used super bulky yarn and huge needles, what can I say I love the results of that pattern.
