Coffee with Capricious

Capricious and I went out for our weekly "Kate Date" last night (although lately weekly has been a challenge). We had coffee at Starbucks and about an hour or so into the night I was telling a story about how I told Chase that Christmas was Jesus's birthday and how he was shocked by this new discovery. The guy next to us started chuckling and was like "I swear I wasn't listening in but you should put that on Facebook." He then proceeded to tell us how men and women have VERY different conversations with eachother and how he can tell we are very good friends.

It did make me wonder a little...I am very close with a few of my dearest girlfriends and I definitely can't imagine a set of guys having the types of conversations we have (there are literally no secrets between me and my bffs). Then I got to wondering if it is more that guys wouldn't have those types of connections or if it is really that most people in general don't have those types if connections with other people...

All I know is that am truly blessed to have besties that I can be myself around and say anything that pops to mind. We have seen eachother's best and worst and hopefully it will be like that forever!

Sending all my love to you gals today!

Operation Play More

My blog has been in a rut lately....(is it the blog?)...or maybe it is just the that my life is in a rut. It is so easy to slip into the regular grind. I dropped Chase at camp on Monday and he sobbed and said he wished he could spend the day with me and then I went to work and had a really crappy day with crappy meetings that made what I have been working on for the last few months a total waste (this is the usual cycle at work)...and I kept thinking - why do I do this - it is NOT worth it!?

But now it is spring and the weather is amazing and the sun is out and everything around me makes me want to work less and play more. So (since quitting my job isn't practical) here are my spring and summer goals:

- Take Chase on a new adventure to do something different that we haven't done before at least every other week
- Go on a date with Boris (somewhere we have never been before because new things are fun!)
- Plan a vacation (this girl needs a get away)
- Start doing different exciting things on Kate Dates (I LOVE the good old regular Kate Dates but once Capricious and I talked about a Kate Date bucket list and I think it is time to get that thing going)
- Craft / Sew / Knit something - I need to be creative again
- Finish a book or two or three
- Finish my 10 mile run in April - maybe another one in May?
- Start biking or swimming (got to start somewhere if I want to do a Tri someday)
- Have spontaneous get togethers with friends and neighbors
- Lose 5 lbs (about time already...really...must be done - the pants say so)
- Stress about my job less (because it is just a job right?)

Yes, it does appear that I will somehow have to extend a regular day to accomplish all this - sleep less? be more efficient? spend less time feeling grouchy about work? I'm sure I will figure it out.

Hunger Games

Last weekend we went to see the Hunger Games. It was fun but we went to the IMAX theater and the handcam work made us a bit motion sick. I thought the movie was just okay - it is always hard to capture all of the depth in a book.

PS: See that giant bowl of popcorn - it was the first time I have ever gotten a popcorn refill before! (Granted there were 4 of us - but still - quite the accomplishment)....

Hiking in Boulder

It has been quite the outdoors weekend. Yesterday I did my 7 mile run and for some reason it was HARD (I'll blame it on the heat, hills, and my lingering head cold). The best part was the Mexican food and hot tub that followed. Then this morning Stark and I rocked the off leash trails in Boulder with a friend and her Goldens. Stark is a firm believer that being off leash, dirty, and eating cow s%#* is the greatest part of being a dog.

BFFs

I had a blast at our girls only sleepover last night. We had Mexican food, sang some karaoke, and saw The Vow. The movie was slightly disappointing as it wasn't as romantic as I thought it would be but it was so fun to be out. Having amazing girlfriends is really a "must" in life...

An Amazing Night

Last night, giant snow storm and all, we still had my 30th birthday party. I was amazed that almost everyone braved the weather and came out. We played Dance Central and Rock Band, ate the most amazing food ever, and laughed our asses off! I haven't had that much fun at a birthday party since my 18th birthday!

Here is pic of my two dearest friends (party hostesses).

The round of shots...(I am TERRIBLE at taking shots and it didn't exactly go down smoothly).

And of course there were Vodka infused gummy bears (yellow bear was a regular bear and orange bear was a soaked goodness bear). They were a big hit!

I hope the rest of my 30s are as wonderful as the first night was!

Thanks for everyone who helped organize, my parents for hosting my kiddo, and everyone who dragged themselves out on a cold Friday night to wish me well.

Mommy and Chase

A Snowy 30th

Happy Snow Day!

If only I were a school aged kid...this would have been the best birthday ever!

Amazingly a good number of people are planning on taking on mother nature and still coming out for my party! I feel loved!

The Big 3 0

A woman over 30 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 30 give a damn what you might think about her or what she's doing.
~Andy Rooney

Tomorrow I turn 30...wow!

Ahhhh this little device is totally impractical unless you journal yet I want one so bad! I love the idea of journaling but that is essentially what a blog is right? Besides there are so many cool ways to electronically journal now...and yet I am totally enamoured with the tiny printer *sigh*

Kid Sewing Project

At Chase's school they did the cutest craft the other day (handmade pillows) so we decided to do it at home! We put two pieces of flannel right sides together and you make dots with a pen around the edges (as a guide). Then kiddos can use embroidery thread and a yarn or embroidery needle to whip stitch or running stitch around the edges. Turn inside out, stuff, and have a parent sew the hole closed. Done! A perfect pillow (your kids will be proud)!
